Brentwood Arts Exchange highlights the artwork of local ceramist Joe Hicks in its Craft Showcase from June 25 - August 18. Hicks' most recent work, large stoneware vessels embellished with prints of cassette tapes will be featured in the gallery's front windows. With an interest in "Recordable Surfaces," Hicks' work focuses on the chemical reactions that occur when carbon in the kiln atmosphere and iron contained in the clay and glaze interact during the firing process. These interactions make it possible for his work to record the images and patterns that appear on his stoneware.
