PRESS RELEASE - Linganore High School's Fall Play, Iphigenia at Aulis
Politics, fate, leadership, and the clash of cultures are all major aspects of todays world. Yet these themes were explored thousands of years ago by the Greek playwright, Euripides, and they converge on stage in Linganore High Schools production of Iphigenia at Aulis.
The classic Greek tragedy takes place en route to the epic engagement of the Greek Forces at Troy. Full of war-lust at the abduction of their beautiful Helen by the Trojans, the Greeks have traveled to Aulis to launch their fleet. But the ships cannot sail! The seas are becalmed are the fates playing games with the Greeks?
Agamemnon, the king of the Greeks, frets but he soon has an answer to his problem. All he has to do, says a priest, is sacrifice his firstborn child, Iphigenia! Agamemnon is torn by loyalty to family and to his country; hes buffeted by the forces of war and peace. And . . . what will he say to his wife, Clytemnestra?
Follow along as Agamemnon plots, schemes and suffers through his terrible dilemma.
Exploring the universal appeal of the story, Linganores production is staged in the 1930s at the onset of World War Two. Topical songs and the culture of the times support a stunning cast in a production that will literally blow you away!
