My name is Alan J. McCombs, and I’m covering all happenings, goings-on and matters of note in Bowie as well as covering the workings of the Prince George’s County Council. I’m glad to be here and look forward to serving our community. Prior to writing for The Gazette, I wrote copy for Patuxent Publishing Co. During my years with PPC, I wrote for three of their papers: the Catonsville Times, the Arbutus Times and the Soundoff!. The Soundoff!, a military paper produced at Fort Meade Army post in Anne Arundel County, was my first professional job after graduating from the journalism program at the University of Maryland, College Park. While with the paper, I shared in its 2008 second-place finish in the military’s Keith L. Ware Journalism Award Competition. My previous experiences were a blast, with great people, good stories and fun memories, and I look forward to making new ones with the people of Prince George’s County.
