I had my first short story published in my elementary school literary publication when I was 7. I am among the few of my 1981 journalism class at the University of North Texas who is still actually in journalism. I have covered business for The Gazette since 2004. Previously I worked as a writer and editor for The Dallas Morning News, Arlington News, Addison/North Dallas Register and other newspapers. I have also contributed to the late Dallas Times Herald, D Magazine, Minority Business News USA, Texas Catholic, Fort Worth Weekly and others. I have had a few books published, including “And Justice For All: The Untold History of Dallas” [CGS Communications] and “A Parent’s Guide to Dallas/Fort Worth” [Mars Publishing/Parent’s Guide Press]. Among the awards I have won was a Best in Show for business writing from the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association in 2010. I have also been recognized by Lincoln University’s Unity Awards in Media, the Dallas Press Club, Bethesda Literary Festival, Texas Press Association, American Cancer Society, Suburban Newspapers of America, and Mental Health Association. But I consider one of my top accolades to come from a former Dallas City Council member, who once told me an article I wrote on the official “was not the way my mother would have written it.” An Eagle Scout, I have been a Cub Scout leader of my son’s den and a coach of my son and daughter’s sports teams.
