A Southern Maryland native, Jeff began his journalism career in summer 2009 covering Calvert County government for The Calvert Recorder, where he had previously interned in 2007. A year later, he transitioned to covering state politics for Southern Maryland Newspapers and in spring 2011 assumed the Charles County crime beat, as well. Each year, his work has been awarded by the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association. A lifelong fan of Washington, D.C., sports, Jeff attended the University of Maryland, College Park so that he could root for the Terrapins and was lucky the school just happened to offer a fairly decent journalism program, too. He spent two years as a sports reporter for The Diamondback, the university's independent student newspaper, and hosted a short-lived sports-talk radio show on campus. He completed internships with the Recorder, The Baltimore Sun and USA Today before, somehow, graduating in 2009. When not at the statehouse or courthouse, Jeff is typically on his couch yelling at Robert Griffin III to slide, Bryce Harper to lay off the outside breaking ball or John Wall to make a three-point shot.
