I've been told on numerous occasions that I’m a “sports nut.” I've been with Southern Maryland Newspapers since December 1997. I began as a sports writer for The Enterprise, then went on to be sports editor at The Enterprise for 10 years and have been regional sports editor for Southern Maryland Newspapers since 2008. I've won awards for sports page layout design from the Maryland Delaware D.C. Press Association. I graduated from Northern High School in Calvert County in 1992, received an associate degree in print journalism from Potomac State College of West Virginia University in Keyser, W.Va. in 1994. I received a bachelor’s of art in radio/television from Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., in 1997. While at Marshall, I won awards from the West Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Association as a member of WMUL-FM, the broadcast voice of Marshall. I served in many capacities while at WMUL-FM, some of which include morning show DJ, play-by-play broadcaster, news and sports anchor for the station's award-winning newscast, sports director and training coordinator for future WMUL-FM students. In 1996, WMUL-FM was runner-up for College Radio Station of the Year by the National Association of College Broadcasters. Each spring, WMUL-FM presents the Paul G. Watson Recognition of Excellence Award, which goes to the student broadcaster at WMUL-FM who shows unrelenting effort and dedication to the campus radio station.
