In Montgomery County, animal-related issues and concerns are primarily handled by the Montgomery County Police Departments Animal Services Division located at the Animal Services and Adoption Center, 7315 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood. It is the law in Montgomery County that all dogs, cats and ferrets four months of age or older receive a current rabies vaccination and that dogs and cats be licensed through the county or a local municipality. Animal Services Division officers are responsible for responding to and investigating calls seven days a week, 24 hours-a-day for animals at-large, cruelty and neglect, nuisance and noise complaints, injured wildlife, and rabid or other aggressive or dangerous animals. They also conduct inspections of animal-related businesses in the county. The Animal Services and Adoption Center serves all animals in need from dogs and cats to farm animals, wildlife and exotic animals. It offers adoptions, lost and found pet assistance, vaccination clinics, education and outreach. The county also manages a dead animal removal program that disposes of dead deer or other large animals that are beside or obstructing roadways.
