In Montgomery County, animal-related issues and concerns are primarily handled by the Montgomery County Police Departments Animal Services Division (ASD) located at the Animal Services and Adoption Center (ASAC).
It is the law in Montgomery County that all dogs and cats four months of age or older receive a current rabies vaccination and be licensed through the County. For further information, pet owners residing within the city limits of Rockville and Gaithersburg should contact their separate Departments of Animal Control. All others should contact the ASAC located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood www.montgomerycountymd.gov/asd.
Field service officers are responsible for responding to and investigating calls for service seven days a week and 24 hours-a-day for: animals-at-large, cruelty and neglect, nuisance/noise complaints, injured wildlife, and rabid or other aggressive/dangerous animals. They also conduct inspections of animal-related businesses in the county.
The ASAC staff manages the largest eco-friendly animal adoption center in the region. The center serves all animals in need from dogs and cats to farm animals, wildlife and exotics. They offer adoptions, spay and neuter assistance, lost and found pet assistance, vaccination clinics, education and outreach. The center serves as a community resource to promote and advocate for responsible pet care.
The county manages a dead animal removal program that disposes of dead deer or other large animals that are beside or obstructing roadways. Calls for dead animal pick-up should be made to 311 or 240-777-0311.
