A Chaptico teenager was arrested Monday on charging papers alleging that a pistol round he fired from a pickup truck earlier that day struck a car being moved off Hurry Road, and a Bushwood teenager driving the truck was charged with illegally having the handgun in the vehicle.
A judge ordered Tuesday that Andrew Thomas Vaden, 18, remain in jail in lieu of $50,000 bond on charges including reckless endangerment and property destruction. Christopher R. Quade, 18, was jailed in lieu of 10 percent of $5,000 bond on the handgun charge.
At about 3:30 p.m. on Monday, court papers state, Richard Suite was trying to move his 2001 Pontiac from the side of the road, where he had it parked for sale, when Quade drove past in the Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck and Vaden, his passenger, fired a shot striking the car’s passenger side door.
“Suite was on the other side of the car, which placed him in great danger,” according to court papers filed by St. Mary’s sheriff’s Sgt. William Hill and deputy Steven Kirby.
Police found the truck and the two suspects in Helen, court papers state, and Quade told law officers that he found a handgun on the side of Hurry Road about two months ago. Court papers state that Quade led the law officers to a creek off Manor Road, where they recovered a .25-caliber Colt handgun.
