A Charles County grand jury issued the following indictments:

Christopher Matthew Brent, 23, of Waldorf was charged with four counts of sexual child abuse, five counts of second-degree rape, five counts of second-degree sex offense and two counts of third-degree sex offense for events that occurred between June and August 2009, between Dec. 12, 2009, and Jan. 3, 2010, between Feb. 27, 2010, and March 7, 2010, and between May 8, 2010, and May 9, 2010.

Carrington Jamarr Hall, 18, of White Plains was charged with theft of between $1,000 and $10,000 and motor vehicle theft for events that occurred June 30.

Bernard Thomas Jones, 46, of Suitland was charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property valued at less than $500 for events that occurred Aug. 18.

Waldo Luis Mercader, 35, of Waldorf was charged with attempted second-degree rape, second-degree assault and false imprisonment for events that occurred Aug. 15.

Brian Christopher Webb, 20, of Nanjemoy was charged with second-degree escape and violating a condition of release for events that occurred July 14.

Monel Lamont Cardwell, 19, of Lanham was charged with theft of between $10,000 and $100,000 and motor vehicle theft for events that occurred Sept. 27, 2010.

Howard Daniel Gardner, 63, of Waldorf was charged with theft of between $10,000 and $100,000 and malicious destruction of property valued at more than $500 for events that occurred March 11.

Philip Quincey Lewis, 29, of Upper Marlboro was charged with drug possession with intent to distribute, drug possession, driving while under the influence, driving while impaired by alcohol and driving without a license for events that occurred Aug. 19.

Jay Clifton Owens, 28, of Bryans Road was charged with first-degree rape, second-degree rape, attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and false imprisonment for events that occurred Aug. 24.

Webster Phillips Parran, 66, currently residing at the Charles County Detention Center, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment for events that occurred Aug. 22.

James Edward Randles III, 27, of La Plata was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of malicious destruction of property valued at less than $500 and theft of between $1,000 and $10,000 for events that occurred between June 11 and 12.

Moses Carroll Riley, 50, of La Plata was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault for events that occurred Aug. 21.

Richard Darnell Schools II, 19, currently residing at the Charles County Detention Center, was charged with six counts of first-degree burglary, three counts of theft of between $1,000 and $10,000, three counts of malicious destruction of property valued at less than $500, three counts of theft of less than $1,000, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person with a previous felony conviction and two counts of possession of a regulated firearm or ammunition while younger than 21 for events that occurred June 1, 20, 23 and 30, and July 9.
