The following items were compiled from reports for the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. During the week of September 19 through September 25 deputies of the sheriff’s office responded to 1,523 calls for service throughout the community.
Chesapeake Beach
Window smashed out of vehicle
Someone smashed the driver’s side window of a vehicle parked outside a home on 17th Street. The damage, estimated at $300, was done sometime between Sept. 20 and 21 and is being investigated by Dfc. R. Kreps.
Dowell
Theft of chainsaws reported
Sometime overnight between Sept. 22 and 23, someone stole nine Stihl chainsaws, one Husqvarna chainsaw, three tree climbing belts and other property all together valued at more than $10,000, from a truck owned by Tri-County Lawn and Tree Service in Dowell. Dunkirk
Thousands of dollars in jewelry stolen
A home on Palisades Drive was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sept. 23. Deputy J. Denton is investigating the theft of more than $11,000 worth of jewelry and damages amounting to $3,000. Lusby
Objects thrown at vehicles reported
Juveniles were seen throwing unknown objects at vehicles driving along Cove Point Road near Cove Point Park on Sept. 24 at about 10:30 p.m. A victim reported seeing approximately three juvenile males throw something at his vehicle, striking it and causing the passenger side window to break. At the same time, another driver, heading in the opposite direction, had her vehicle pelted with unknown objects that caused scratches to the vehicle’s paint. Solomons
Man charged for stealing food
A man from Niceville, Fla., was arrested after he allegedly stole food from the Solomons Holiday Inn on Sept. 25 at 3 a.m. Deputy R. Kampf responded to the call and allegedly found Colin Andrew Hayes, 26, sitting on a park bench in front of the hotel surrounded by various containers of food. When asked where he got it, Hayes allegedly said he had stolen the items from the restaurant of the hotel. A manager of the hotel confirmed the items belonged to the restaurant. Hayes was charged with burglary and theft.
Woman arrested for disorderly conduct
On Sept. 25 at midnight, Deputy R. Kampf was assisting trooper Wiersma on a traffic stop at the 7-Eleven. A female driver stopped and allegedly approached the officers, saying the driver of the other vehicle was someone she knew and then she started cursing at the officers. She was asked to leave the area but allegedly refused and continued to holler and curse. Juliette Elizabeth Leaman, 32, of Lusby was placed under arrest and charged with disorderly conduct and failure to obey a lawful order. Leaman allegedly continued her rant while in transport to the jail.
Sunderland
Man charged with possession of oxycodone and DUI
On Sept. 24 at 3:55 p.m., Dfc. M. Robshaw allegedly observed a vehicle matching the description of a dispatched call for a possible intoxicated driver. The vehicle had been reported as driving all over the roadway and had allegedly struck a guardrail in Huntingtown. The vehicle turned onto Pushaw Station Road off of Route 2 and stopped at the compactor site. Robshaw then made contact with the driver, identified as Christopher Allen Gasch, 31, of Owings. Gasch was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Gasch was allegedly found to be in possession of suspected drugs and also charged with possession of oxycodone.
