The Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing board of trustees recently selected Warren R. Phillips as its CEO.

Phillips is a retired University of Maryland professor who also has held senior leadership positions in the private sector and is currently lead director at CACI, a Washington, D.C.-based defense contractor.

Before assuming the duties of CEO, Phillips had been serving on the group’s board of trustees as executive vice president for development. PHWFF’s founder, Ed Nicholson, a retired U.S. Navy captain, remains as president.

“Warren's breadth of experience over 30 years serving in administration at the University of Maryland, along with his leadership skills, energy and commitment to the mission of PHWFF, makes him the best choice for the position,” Nicholson said in a news release.

Douglas Dear, chairman of PHWFF’s board of trustees, added in the release, “We are grateful to have received many excellent supporting statements from our management team and volunteers about Dr. Phillips’ collegiality and shared vision for PHWFF.”

The group is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and veterans through fly-fishing and fly-tying education and outings, according to the release.

Since 2005, PHWFF volunteers have been teaching the therapeutic and rehabilitative art of fly tying and fly fishing to wounded warriors and disabled veterans.
