Members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office are looking for Jessica Christine Leatherwood, 17, of Prince Frederick, who was reported missing in Baltimore and Rockville by her father on Jan. 3.

Lt. Steve Jones said Leatherwood was still missing Thursday morning and is considered a runaway. Jones said deputies have been in touch with Leatherwood’s mother, who may know where the missing teen is.

“At this point if she’s with the biological mother we just need to see the child to make sure she’s in good health,” Jones said. “We’re hoping to have located her within 24 to 48 hours.”

Leatherwood is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighs 125 pounds, has blue eyes and brown shoulder length hair, according to a sheriff’s office press release. She was last seen boarding her school bus at 6:45 a.m. Jan. 3. She was wearing a hooded knee-length brown sweater, dark leggings and brown boots, and was also wearing silver rings on both hands. Leatherwood reportedly did not attend school that day.

There was a reported sighting of Leatherwood on Jan. 18 in Dunkirk but police did not locate her, according to the press release. Deputies said all attempts to find her have been unsuccessful.

Anyone with information on Leatherwood’s whereabouts is asked to immediately call Trooper Jason Ewig at 410-535-1600, ext. 2596 or Jones, ext. 2462.
