Joseph Lee McCarthy, 27, of Great Mills was jailed Wednesday without bond on charging papers alleging he robbed a female of her purse and its contents valued at $200 on Jan. 30 outside the Pegg Road Shell convenience store, and committed a second-degree assault.

Court papers state that Kate Eggert was leaving the business when a masked man forcefully took the purse from her, despite her struggle against him, and that she suffered minor injuries.

Charges were obtained against the suspect this week after detectives reviewed video surveillance at the scene and recovered a cell phone on a nearby path, according to a statement of probable cause filed by L.N. Nims of the St. Mary’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
