Betty Jane Miller-Hamby-Patton, 74, of Huntingtown, formerly of St. Charles in Charles County, died Feb. 8, 2012, after a long illness with her loving husband, Fred, beside her.

She was born Oct. 24, 1937, in Washington, D.C., to Bill and Hazel M. (Cole) Miller.

Her last days were spent residing at Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick. She was a member of the St. Charles Women’s Club in the early ’70s. She will be remembered as a talented hairdresser and homemaker. Her hobbies in her younger days were bowling, arts and crafts. In her leisure time, she loved to knit and crochet neck scarves for her family. She and her husband lived a simple life enjoying strolling flea markets, family cook-outs and just singing and playing music with friends and family at home. She also had a big heart for cats, dogs and birds. She leaves behind her dog Della and numerous cats.

She will be missed by her loving long-time sister and friend, Pat and Al Wildermann of Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Bobby Miller, Fred Miller and Joel Peyton.

She is survived by her devoted loving husband, Fred W. Patton; daughters, Deborah J. Dirosario of Colonial Beach, Va., and Donna M. Hamby of Latrobe, Pa.; son, Steven R. Hamby of Colonial Beach, Va.; brother, Lee C. Peyton and his wife, Pat, of Frederick; grandchildren, Jason A. Rader and his wife, Mollie, of Colonial Beach, Va., Joseph A. Rader II and his wife, Andrea, and his sons of Fredericksburg, Va., Anna Anderson, Angela Martin and her husband, Jimmy, Marie Hamby of Culpepper, Va., and Shawn Hamby and Shane Hamby of Latrobe, Pa.; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Donna Miller of Puyallup, Wash., Irene, and Joanne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are being provided by Rausch Funeral Home in Owings.
