Deputy state fire marshals report that they are investigating the cause of a Sunday afternoon fire that began on the exterior of a Mechanicsville home’s garage, and destroyed the structure along with a car and motorcycle.

The fire was doused by more than two dozen Mechanicsville, 7th District and Hughesville volunteer firefighters responding to a 5:16 p.m. alarm, according to a notice of investigation filed by deputy state fire marshal Caryn McMahon, and they brought the blaze at the property owned by Joshua Feyen on Lawrence Adams Drive under control within eight minutes after their arrival. The loss to the garage and its contents was estimated at $75,000.

The firefighters also found flames in the attached house’s attic, according to a St. Mary’s dispatch log report stating that the property had been vacant for about a week before the fire. A neighbor discovered the blaze, according to the fire marshal’s office.

The state agency has requested that anyone with information about the fire call its regional office at 443-550-6831.
