Women’s soccer league

The Charles County Department of Public Works will hold registration for its upcoming spring women's soccer league from Feb. 27 to March 16.

League play will take place on Sundays at Laurel Springs Regional Park in La Plata and a seven-on-seven format will be played on an intermediate-size field.

The franchise cost is $450 per team. Teams may register at the Department of Public Works at 1001 Radio Station Road in La Plata from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

Umpires wantedThe Charles County Umpires Association is looking for fastpitch and slowpitch softball umpires for the upcoming season.

The association provides fastpitch softball umpires for the six county high schools’ varsity and junior varsity programs as well as all of the county’s adult slowpitch recreation leagues.

Adult softball league

Michelle’s CupBryans Road Soccer Association will hold its third annual Michelle’s Cup on March 24 (Raindate: March 25). This is an in-house soccer tournament in honor of Michelle Ballengee.

Junior golf programs

White Plains Golf Course will offer golf memberships for children 8 to 17 as of Jan. 1.

Two memberships for junior golfers are available. The cost for a yearly pass (April 1 to March 31) is $150, while the cost for a three-month pass (June 1 to Aug. 31) is $100.

The registration fee and occasional volunteer hours allow junior golfers access to basic golf etiquette classes and golf privileges. Beginners are welcome.

Bike rideThe Charles County Sheriff’s Office annual bike ride will be held March 24 along the Indian Head rail trail.

The event will kick off at the Village Green Pavilion at 100 Walter Thomas Road in Indian Head with check-in at 9 a.m. and a flex-start time of 10 a.m. The town of Indian Head will provide lunch, snacks and drinks to participants.

The rain date will be March 31.

The event will benefit United Way of Charles County and the Spring Dell Center.

Beginner golf lessons

White Plains Golf Course will offer two beginner golf clinics in April.

Session 1 will be held April 9 to 12 and session 2 will be held April 16 to 19. Each four-day session is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m.

The cost for each session is $99, which includes instruction on course etiquette, safety, rules, grip, stance, posture, chipping, putting, irons, woods and on-the-course instruction.

Golf tournamentUnited Way of Charles County will hold its 15th annual golf tournament on April 18 at Swan Point Yacht and Country Club in Issue.

There will be back-to-back tournaments with shotgun start times of 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Coed flag footballThe Southern Maryland Youth Flag Football League will hold its third annual coed flag football league for adults 30 and older.

This league is a recreation league for fun and exercise only. Special rules will be in affect to ensure maximum participation for all females.

Games will be every Friday evening in Waldorf starting in mid-April and will end in late May. No coaches or practices.

Junior golf clinics

White Plains Golf Course will offer two junior golf clinics in June.

Session 1 for children 8 to 12 will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. June 18 to 21 and session 2 for children 13 to 17 will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. June 25 to 28.
