Many thanks to the Maryland Independent and staff writer Dallas Cogle for the excellent article in the sports section about Dominic Zaccarelli, Westlake football coach [“Zaccarelli retires from coaching,” Feb. 10].

However, there is another part of “Zac” not mentioned in your article.

For years he coached baseball for youth leagues in Charles County.

My sons, Billy and Scot, were fortunate to have this fine man as their coach for a few seasons. They learned many things from him. He taught baseball as no other could. He also taught them patience, kindness and consideration to fellow players and the opposition. Win or lose, Zac always had a positive attitude.

My boys could not wait to get to the field whenever they had to.

My personal thanks to Zac for all of the time he gave each and every young person he came in contact with. I hope he will enjoy the extra time that he will have.

Knowing him as well as I do, Zac will always have part of his heart with the students. Thank you, Zac, for everything.
