Napier notches CAC honor
St. Mary’s College of Maryland junior Corey Napier, a St. Mary’s Ryken High School graduate from Leonardtown, was selected as the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week ending Feb. 19.
Napier earned his second career CAC Hitter of the Week honor after hitting .583 (7 for 12) with five runs scored, three doubles and two RBIs in four games. He also posted a slugging percentage of .833 and an on-base percentage of .625.
The 6-foot-3 shortstop started the season with three consecutive multiple-hit efforts at the plate, as Napier connected on two hits in each of the year’s first three games.
He went 2 for 4 with two doubles in a 4-3 extra-inning loss at Randolph-Macon College (Va.) on Feb. 11 before going 2 for 2 with two runs scored and a double in a 6-1 win over City College of New York in the first half of the doubleheader on Feb. 18.
Napier concluded the CCNY doubleheader with a 2-for-3 effort and a run scored.

Butler shines for Norwich
Behind a 54-47 win over Lasell (Mass.) in its regular season finale Feb. 18, Norwich University (Vt.) picked up the No. 8 seed in the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference postseason tournament.
In the win over Lasell, sophomore guard Tylita Butler, a Great Mills High School graduate from Lexington Park, topped off a strong afternoon with an eight-point, seven-rebound, seven-assist day to help key the win.
Coach Mark Zacher’s program has reached the GNAC postseason tournament in each of its 11 years as a member of the conference.
The Cadets were winners of four of their last six and sporting an 11-14 record after the win and faced off against GNAC regular season champion Emmanuel College of Boston on Feb. 21, a 66-54 loss.
In the loss to Emmanuel, Butler did not score but did have two rebounds, two assists and three steals.
