Two students were taken to the hospital after the school bus in which they were passengers was rear-ended on Monday afternoon on Route 2.
At about 3:38 p.m. Monday, troopers from the Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack and deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to Route 2 at Pushaw Station Road for an accident involving a school bus and a FedEx truck, according to an MSP press release.
Four students were in the bus that was hit, according to Calvert County Public Schools Spokeswoman Gail Bennett.
Bennett said the four students were traveling from Windy Hill Middle School when the bus, which was stopped to drop off students, was rear-ended by a FedEx truck. Route 2 was shut down for a brief period, troopers said.
Bennett said two students were transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital for precautionary reasons and the other two were picked up by their parents.
Troopers said the bus driver was also taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital and the FedEx driver was flown by helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital Center. Troopers said all injuries sustained during the accident are considered non-life threatening.
Bennett said she could not comment on the extent of the two students’ injuries as of Tuesday morning.
Members of the fire department and State Highway Administration also assisted at the scene, troopers said. The investigation is being handled by Tfc. Sorenson.
