The Thurmont Lions Club wants to honor a teacher who has made a difference in the lives of students and exemplifies what it means to be an educator.

The club is taking nominations for this year’s Teacher of the Year.

Parents, students and fellow teachers can nominate their favorite teacher from Thurmont’s Catoctin High School feeder school system. Full-time teachers in prekindergarten through 12th grade are eligible from the following schools: Mother Seton in Emmitsburg, Emmitsburg Elementary, Thurmont Primary, elementary and middle schools, Catoctin High School, and Sabillasville and Lewistown elementary schools.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. March 23 and can be mailed to Susan Favorite, 6 Clarke Ave., Thurmont, 21788. Nomination forms are available at www.thurmontlionsclub.com.

The club will announce a finalist from each school during a reception at 7 p.m. April 10, at Thurmont Primary School, 7989 Rocky Ridge Road in Thurmont. The winner will be selected from the eight finalists and announced at the club’s education night on May 9.

Eight finalists will receive a gift certificate and the winner will be awarded a check for $250, Favorite said.

“We want to recognize each teacher,” she said. “I’ve already received a few nominations.”
