Kathryn “Kathy” Yates Adkins, 58, of Mechanicsville died March 5, 2012, peacefully at her home.

Born Aug. 14, 1953 in Leonardtown, she was the daughter of the late Jake and Margy Yates and was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County.

She loved playing cards, listening to music and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ronnie D. Adkins; her son, Kevin D. Adkins of Mechanicsville; mother-in-law, Martha Adkins of Mineral, Va.; her siblings, Chris Yates of Morganza, Tracey Yates of Clements and Joey Yates (Beth) of Leonardtown; her uncles, John B. Yates (Patsy) of Clements and Donald Clarke of Mechanicsville; her aunts, Jeannette Foley of North Palm Beach, Fla., Linda Williams of Loveville, Donie Alvey (Jackie), Georgia Nelson and Winnie Kopacko of Clements; 10 nephews; five nieces; four great-nephews; one great-niece; and many cousins.

The family will receive friends today, March 9, from 4 to 7 p.m., with prayers to be recited at 6 p.m., at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated March 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morganza, with the Rev. Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Queen of Peace Cemetery in Helen. Pallbearers will be Dale Yates, Joey Vallandingham, Timmy Yates, John Bowen, Darren Alvey, Roy Williams and Kenny Smith.
