A Mechanicsville man was jailed Monday in lieu of $175,000 bond on charging papers alleging he beat and robbed another man of a bicycle the day before in the Country Lakes neighborhood, where police found a pellet gun during a search of the suspect’s home.
Evan Michael Kupchinsky, 29, was charged with armed robbery, a second-degree assault on Joshua Michael McGee and committing a fourth-degree burglary at Evelyn Annette McGee’s home on Asher Road.
Joshua McGee was getting ready to go on a bike ride Sunday when Kupchinsky struck him in the face, knocking him to ground, and took the bicycle from the home before pointing a gun at McGee and telling him “That’s what you get for owing me money,” St. Mary’s sheriff’s Cpl. Deborah Milam wrote in a statement of probable cause.
Police found the bicycle along nearby Yowaiski Mill Road, court papers state, and a police dog led the law officers from there to the suspect’s home on a side street.
Kupchinsky told police that he had been mowing the lawn at his residence, according to court papers.
An ambulance crew responded to McGee’s home due to an injury to his mouth, court papers state, and he declined further medical treatment for his injury.
