A Lusby man jumped off of the roof of the Super 8 Motel in Prince Frederick on Saturday and died.
According to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 1:22 p.m. Saturday, March 31, to the Super 8 Motel at 40 Commerce Lane to check the welfare of a man that was hanging out of a second story window.
Deputies located Joseph Kirk Nguyen, 44, of Lusby standing on an awning outside of a second story window. Nguyen apparently refused to go back through the window into the hotel room and climbed from the awning up onto the roof of the building. Nguyen got on the roof’s peak at the back of the hotel, and deputies said he was talking on his cellphone and refused to talk to deputies on the scene.
Several negotiators from the sheriff’s office Conflict Management Team arrived on scene and tried to call Nguyen but were unsuccessful, according to a press release. The negotiators were lifted up by a fire department ladder truck so they could talk to Nguyen and he refused to talk, deputies said.
Nguyen then jumped from the roof and was unconscious and unresponsive after the fall, according to the press release. Medical personnel immediately administered first aid to Nguyen. He was then taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead.
