Dfc. J. Smith responded to a car accident at 10:50 p.m. April 1 at Route 4 and Patuxent Point Parkway, where a woman and her child were standing in the road. Smith told the woman to get out of the road and the woman did not comply. As Smith tried to get the child to safety, the woman allegedly began to scream at Smith and pushed him. Cpl. A. Moschetto arrived on the scene, and the woman allegedly became irate and combative as the deputies tried to investigate the accident. Deputies said the woman, Kelley Marie Busby, 31, of Great Mills, appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Deputies told her to calm down and she allegedly continued to flail her arms, push the deputies and scream profanities. She was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, acting in a disorderly manner, driving while intoxicated and other traffic violations. After being taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital for treatment for an injury received in the accident, she was jailed at the Calvert County Detention Center.
