Montgomery County to offer free rabies clinic -- Gazette.Net

The Montgomery County Police Departmentís Animal Services Division will sponsor six rabies vaccination clinics during 2012. The clinics will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on the third Sunday of each month, April through September, at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter, 14645 Rothgeb Drive, Rockville.

The first clinic will be Sunday, April 15. Others are: Sunday, May 20; Sunday, June 17; Sunday, July 15, Sunday, Aug. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 16.

The rabies vaccinations will be administered by a participating veterinarian at no charge for dogs and cats owned by residents of Montgomery County. There will be a $4 charge for ferrets and out-of-county pets. County residents, as well as residents of the city of Rockville and the city of Gaithersburg, will be required to purchase a pet license if their pet is not licensed.

Maryland law requires that all dogs, cats and ferrets older than 4 months be vaccinated against rabies. Failure to vaccinate an animal as required may subject the owner to a $500 fine.

At the clinics, all dogs must be leashed. Cats and ferrets must be in carriers or otherwise contained.
