A Waldorf man was arrested Tuesday morning after police dogs tracked him down from the scene of a home invasion in La Plata, police said.
Officers responded at 9:58 a.m. to the 10400 block of La Plata Road, where a woman reported she had walked out of her upstairs bedroom to find a man she did not know standing by her bed. She screamed, and the man fled.
Officers surrounded the area after the witness gave a description of the man. A police dog unit conducted a track and found the man, Curtis Wayne Duff, 18, in the nearby Kings Grant neighborhood. He was arrested without incident.
Duff has been charged with first- and fourth-degree burglary. He is being held on $25,000 bond.
Further investigation revealed Duff was carrying an empty backpack hidden underneath his jacket when he allegedly broke in to the house. It is not clear how Duff gained entry, but he fled out of a rear sliding glass door.
Detectives are still investigating.
