A Waldorf man is dead after his vehicle veered off the northbound lanes of Crain Highway U.S. Route 301 at Dyson Road in Brandywine and crashed into a ditch.

Michael Wayne Bracey, 57, of Waldorf, was injured from the crash and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Maryland State Police, which handled the incident.

State police are still trying to determine a cause of the crash that occurred around 5:45 a.m., said Sgt. John Green, an MPS spokesman.

Scattered showers were in the forecast throughout the region Wednesday morning, though Green could not confirm if weather was a factor in Bracey losing control.

“We don’t know if it was a medical issue or if weather was a factor or anything like that,” Green said.Green said Bracey was the only one in the vehicle and the only vehicle involved in the crash.djgross@gazette.net
