Charles Kenneth Banks, 68, Reston, Va.

Charles Kenneth “Ken” Banks, 68, of Reston, Va., died Nov. 7, 2011, at home.

Born March 8, 1943, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Charles H. Banks and Mary E. Banks of Indian Head.

He was a licensed substance abuse counselor for more than 15 years. He had been employed by Arlington Hospital, Fairfax County and the city of Alexandria in Virginia. He loved his job of helping people.

He was a member of the Arlington Metaphysical Chapel. He loved all sports and celebrating life events. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 through 1965, and then was a supervisor at the Piscataway water treatment plant.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest son, James K. Banks; and brothers, Jerry and Steven Banks.

He is survived by his son, Brett W. Banks; daughter, Deborah J. Banks-McKoy; sisters, Barbara J. Adams, Pat Colborn and Shirley S. Vance; grandchildren, William and Paige; brothers-in-law, Richard Adams, Paul Colborn and James Vance; and several nephews and nieces.

A service was held Nov. 11 at George P. Kalas Funeral Home, Oxon Hill. Burial took place at Park Hill Cemetery, Marbury.
