A ninth-grade boy at Leonardtown High School was flown to a hospital Friday afternoon after a fight at the school, police report, and one of his classmates was charged as a juvenile offender in the matter and released to a family member.
The teenager charged in the case initially was shoved, according to St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputies, before the other boy was repeatedly struck on the head.
A Maryland State Police helicopter crew was dispatched at about 1:30 p.m. that day to the county fairgrounds located across a highway from the school, to fly the boy with the head injury to a hospital, but a senior sheriff’s deputy said the emergency flight to the shock-trauma facility was essentially a precautionary measure.
“He was talking, conscious when they flew him out,” the law officer said.
Sheriff’s deputies are continuing their investigation of the incident, the deputy said.
