A Pomfret man was arrested early May 2 for climbing atop the roof of a business in the 3100 block of Leonardtown Road in Waldorf and damaging a water drain, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported.

A witness inside the business who heard footsteps on the roof called police about 2:12 a.m. to report a possible burglary in progress.

Officers arrived to find Andrew David Warwick, 22, on the roof, smoking a cigarette and talking on a cellphone. Warwick told police he had just left a nearby bar and decided to climb onto the roof for fun.

While scaling the building, Warwick damaged a water drain.

He was arrested and charged with fourth-degree burglary, malicious destruction of property valued at less than $500 and disorderly conduct. He was released on his own recognizance.

Officer S. Cartwright made the arrest.
