Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad’s EMS Chief Andrew Spalding and EMS Lt. Liz Murphy met with Girl Scout Brownie Troop 640 on March 26 to assist the girls in earning their first aid patch. Spalding and Murphy taught the girls how to contact 911 in case of an emergency and how to perform basic first aid skills. They also took them on a tour of an ambulance and gave them the opportunity to try out some of the equipment used in caring for patients.The Scouts, who meet at Dr. Thomas L. Higdon Elementary School, were enthusiastic about the visit and reported feeling more confident in dealing with emergency situations.
