The St. Vincent Pallotti High School baseball team advanced to the championship round of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference playoffs with a 5-0 victory against Mount Carmel on Friday.

The Panthers (21-10) will face Annapolis Area Christian School (17-9) at 4 p.m. Monday at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. Under the MIAA's double-elimination playoff format, Pallotti will need to beat AACS twice in order to win the championship. AACS was a 9-5 winner against Pallotti in a playoff game on Wednesday. The teams split their two regular season games.

On Friday, Pallotti senior Nate Spicher allowed five hits and two walks while striking out six in a complete-game shutout. Aside from Mount Carmel's five hits, Spicher allowed only two other balls to be hit out of the infield.

The Panthers scored all five of their runs in the second inning. After Noah Martin singled in a run, Braulio Ramon knocked home two more with a bases-loaded single. Matt DeFrank followed with a two-run double.

Mount Carmel's best chance to score came in the fourth inning when it had the bases loaded with one out. But Spicher induced an inning-ending double play.
