Police have identified two individuals who were killed Sunday morning in a head-on collision on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in Greenbelt.

Mohammad Hossain, 22, of West Lawn, Pa., was driving northbound in a minivan near the Capital Beltway when he crossed the median and veered into the southbound lanes, striking Judith Shinogle, 49, of Washington, D.C., who was driving a sport utility vehicle, according to U.S. Park Police.

Sgt. Paul Brooks, a U.S. Park Police spokesman, said both were transported to an area hospital where they were pronounced dead. He said park police are investigating the crash to determine what caused the driver of the northbound vehicle to cross the median.

Northbound lanes originally were shut down at the Beltway, but were reopened several hours later, Brooks said.

Phone numbers for Hossainís and Shinogleís residences could not be located.
