Building from its honorable mention last year, Frederick climbed another hill in being recognized as a bicycle-friendly community, earning a bronze designation from the League of American Bicyclists for its efforts to be bike friendly.

The city has worked toward becoming recognized by the group since 2010, when Mayor Randy McClement (R) created the ad hoc bicycle committee.

The league has four possible designations — platinum, gold, silver and bronze — for recognition. With the bronze award, Frederick becomes one of 214 bicycle friendly cities in the country.
