Nearly 200 people attended the Maredith Building ribbon-cutting and open house May 17.
Attendees included local business associates, Charles County Chamber of Commerce members, elected officials and family and friends of the developer and building office owners.
Guests enjoyed food prepared by Bailey’s Catering and music by Byx Bullock. Tours of the facility were available during the three-hour event. The chamber presented building and unit owners with plaques welcoming the businesses to their new facilities.
The building’s owner, Washington Street Development, broke ground on the facility on Washington Avenue in La Plata in November 2009 and began selling office condominium space in December 2010. Currently, the entire second floor is sold. It houses Scott Law Group and Chadwick Cos., the owners of C&K Properties of Maryland and MD Quality Homes.
“We are proud that this building was constructed using local contractors for everything from initial design, to materials used in the actual construction, to landscaping,” said Ed Kelly of Washington Street Development. “The building also has many energy-efficient design elements throughout.”
The building architect was Lawrence Abell & Associates, and the builder was Con-Res; both firms are located in La Plata.
