Mary Stokes Grambo, 93, of California died May 28, 2012, at her residence.

Born Jan. 26, 1919, in Gordon, Ga., she was the second of three daughters of the late Emory Joseph Stokes and Ethel Irene Wood.

She graduated from college in Milledgeville, Ga., as a registered dietician. She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1939 and worked as a dietician at the Government Printing Office, where she met her future husband, John Edward “Jack” Grambo. They were married in 1942. They started their family of five children. She taught school for more than 20 years.

She and her husband moved from their Hyattsville home to Wicomico Shores in 1979. They lived there until her husband’s death in 2003. That same year, she moved to Wildewood Village, where she made many new friends.

She is survived by her children, Joseph Grambo of Riva, Mary Kathryn Rupard (Jim) of Cheverly and Susan Julian (Bruce) of Leonardtown; one sister, Virginia Younger of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, John E. Grambo Jr. and Thomas Mark Grambo; and sister, Nell Reeves.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at Hollywood United Methodist Church in Hollywood, with the Rev. Sheldon Reese presiding. Interment will follow at Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery in Chaptico.
