Newman completes Marine basic training

U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Miles R. Newman, son of Earl Newman of Waldorf, recently graduated from the Marine Aviation Operations Specialist Course.

Newman is a 2011 graduate of Westlake High School and joined the Marine Corps in September 2011.

Shelton to graduate from Coast Guard training

Cadet 1st Class Shannah A. Shelton of Hughesville was one of 233 cadets who recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a bachelor’s of science in marine and environmental science.

A 2008 graduate of Mary Grace Christian Academy, Shelton is the daughter of Joseph V. and Elaine Shelton of Hughesville.

Shelton’s first tour of duty will be on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Jarvis in Honolulu.

Hatcher completes Air Force basic training

U.S. Air Force Airman Monica J. Hatcher graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Hatcher is the daughter of Jeanetta Robinson of Waldorf and the granddaughter of Barbara Bowen of Mansfield, Ohio.

She is a 2011 graduate of Thomas Stone High School.

Locals graduate Navy training

U.S. Navy Seaman Apprentice Gwynette C. Lacap, daughter of Anthony E. Commodore of White Plains, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

She is a 2011 graduate of Henry E. Lackey High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Robert A. Fenwick, a 2006 graduate of Gwynn Park High School, recently completed Navy basic training in Great Lakes with honors and was promoted to his current rank.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Demarius D. Richardson, son of Teresa D. Richardson of Waldorf and Seth J. Barnett of Waldorf, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes.

Richardson is a 2009 graduate of North Point High School.
