Cora “Aleen” Bean, 90, of Upper Marlboro died May 25, 2012.

She was born August 1921 in Luray, Va., to parents Cora Fox and Luther Griffith.

She later came to the Washington, D.C. area for better opportunities. She married Tom Bean and had three children. She raised her children with her husband and stayed in the Upper Marlboro area. In her early years she worked for the telephone company as an operator/csr. She retired after 30 years of service then kept up with her passions of sewing, canning, dancing and just being with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Tommy Bean.

She is survived by her sister, Janice Hittenhouser; brother, Charles Griffith; son, Ernest Bean and his wife, Dottie; daughter, Sandra Bean; grandchildren, Michelle, April, Shirley, Ernie Jr. and Evan; and by countless other family members and many friends.

Family received friends on May 31 at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie. A funeral service was held that included lots of happy memories told and a song, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” by her disabled daughter, Sandra Bean.

Interment was held at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Shirley Bean, Ernie Bean Jr. and Evan, nephews David Bean and Danny Bean, and longtime family friend Timmy Stillwell.
