Mr. and Mrs. Gene Kress of Watkins Glen, N.Y., announce the engagement of their son, Adam Lee Kress, to Amy Teresa Ribeiro, daughter of Albert and Sandra Ribeiro of Port Tobacco.
The couple got engaged earlier this year in St. Michaels.
The groom-to-be gave the bride-to-be a turn-of-the-century Victorian estate engagement ring.
He asked her to share his life as they raise their daughter.
The bride-be has served as superintendent for several federal construction projects in the Washington, D.C., area including post-Sept. 11 reconstruction at the Pentagon, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis.
She is currently completing her associate degree at the Community College of Baltimore, School of Health Professions.
The groom-to-be currently serves as assistant director of communications and assistant director of the semester in Washington program for the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany-SUNY.
He is a doctoral candidate at Rockefeller in the department of political science, with research focusing on the intersections of gender and legislative politics.
He holds a masterís in gender and legislative politics from Rockefeller College, a masterís of public administration in government, politics and policy studies from Cornell University and dual bachelorís degrees from Elmira College in political science and public affairs with a minor in American studies.
He graduated magna cum laude. He has been active in professional politics, serving first as an intern and then later as direct marketing consultant for U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.). He is also the author of two collections of poetry and numerous individual publications.
He has a passion and expertise for the works of Chilean Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda.
They are planning an intimate 2013 wedding ceremony with family and friends to be held in Watkins Glen.
They plan to reside in Southern Maryland.
