A local mentoring organization wants to celebrate fathers with a free cookout Sunday.

Prince George’s County fathers and their families are invited to Men Aiming Higher’s second annual Fathers’ Day community cookout from noon to 5 p.m. at Mount Ephraim Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro.

The men will be grilling lunch for their families as a “way of giving back to our families,” said Darryl Barnes, the president of Men Aiming Higher. “Young men get an opportunity to emulate grown men, to understand and realize a man can do the cooking.”

There also will be games for children, such as a moon bounce, and a DJ.

About 250 people attended last year’s cookout, Barnes said, and he expects more this year.
