The Ballengee family would like to thank everyone who came out to the Bryans Road Soccer Association’s third annual Michelle’s Cup Day.

The tournament was held March 24 at the Pomonkey Soccer Complex in memory of a former player and coach, our daughter and sister, Michelle Ballengee. We lost Michelle due to injuries she received during an auto accident in April 2009.

We had approximately 150 youngsters from the Bryans Road Soccer Association who participated in the daylong soccer tournament. Those who participated in the event received a Michelle’s Cup 2012 T-shirt as well as a medal. During the event there was a cookout, bake sale and raffles. Proceeds from the event will help benefit a summer soccer camp for the BRSA players and a donation to Spring Dell Center in La Plata, where Michelle worked helping those with special needs.

We’d like to thank President Cam Ballard, Terri Simmons, Shelley Norris, Timmy McKimmie and a host of coaches and parents of BRSA for their continuing support of Michelle’s Cup and the additional effort they put forth in acquiring donations from local businesses and supporters of the event, Chaney Enterprises, Chuck’s Butcher Shop, attorney James Gorney, Chuck’s Used Auto Parts of Marlow Heights, Damon’s of Waldorf, Bozick Distributors and Deer Park water, certified public accountant Robert Brewer, State Farm of Bryans Road, Henry E. Lackey High School football, Chick-fil-A of La Plata, Capital Clubhouse, Carrabba’s, Robby’s Sunoco, Hooters, Ledo Pizza in La Plata, Mimi’s Cafe, Texas Roadhouse, Outback Steakhouse in La Plata, Waldorf Ford, La Tolteca in La Plata, Flower Basket, Dick’s Sporting Goods, A.J. Delagarza and family, Rhonda Hurt and family, Glenn Campbell and family, and Ed and Carol Yarrington and family.

A special thanks to our family members who donated money, gifts and their time: Rich and Joanne Randall and their daughter, Lucie; Rick and Linda Ballengee; Tom and Drema Grunst and their children, Tayler, Brenna and Evan; Lori Ballengee and her daughter, Halla; Pam and Dean Cowan; and the Sarff family.

We’d like to thank those outside of the association who knew Michelle as a former player, referee or friend and those who came by to offer help and support.

A special thank-you goes to Dennis Stansbury and Erin Bryce, who volunteered to referee the older teams during the event. We also want to say thanks to Po Artes, Ashley Sparks, Brittany Hurt and Alan Alfano who volunteered to coach the older teams and assist in various ways at the event.

We appreciate everyone being there to honor and recognize Michelle as someone who wanted to help the Bryans Road Soccer Association and our community.

Your help in remembering her is forever appreciated. Pictures and video from the event can be viewed at http://brsa.shutterfly.com.
