Jasper William Petrillo, 78, Lothian

Jasper William “Pete” Petrillo, 78, of Lothian died June 1, 2012, at home after a two-year fight with strokes, dementia and chronic kidney failure.

He was the husband of Roberta Gooding Petrillo. He was under the care of Hospice of the Chesapeake, his wife, Bobbi, and caregiver, Sherri Schossler.

Born April 11, 1934, in Capitol Heights, he was the son of the late Dorothy Beaver and the late Joseph A. Petrillo.

Mr. Petrillo served for four years in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Wonder Bread in Waldorf as a fleet foreman after 37 years. He was active in the community and was often referred to as “the Mayor of Mallard Lane.” He loved auctions of all kinds, especially for horses and livestock, estates and vehicles. He collected old cars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Sue Petrillo; brothers, Charles Petrillo of California and Donald Petrillo of California; and former wife, Florence Esposito Petrillo of Delaware.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Emily Petrillo of Waysons Corner and Lorraine Petrillo of Phelan, Calif.; brother, Joseph Petrillo of Florida; sisters, Angie and her husband, Randy Gentry of Rotonda, Fla., Dorothy Tilley of Florida and Lena and her husband, Jack Grace of Norco, Calif.; sons, James Alfred Petrillo and his wife, Joyce of Harrington, Del., and Jasper William Petrillo Jr. and his wife, Laura of Huntingtown; stepsons, John Edward Smith III of Tucson, Ariz., and Angelo Thomas Nappi and his wife, Kathy of Waterford, Va.; grandchildren, Christopher Jay Petrillo and his wife, Erin of Deale, Jason Michael Petrillo and his companion, Denise Leonard of Lothian, James Alfred Petrillo Jr. of Harrington, Vincent Petrillo of Maryland and Nick and Jessica Nappi of Waterford; great-grandchildren, Jason Michael Petrillo of Lothian and Martin Anthony Petrillo of Deale; on his wife’s side he is survived by sisters-in-law, Christine Gardner and her husband, Bill of Mechanicsville and Judy Gooding of Maple Valley, Wash.; many nieces and nephews, including Danny, Julie and Daniel Petrillo of Alexandria, Va., and Charlie, Cissy and Lynn Petrillo of California; his wife, Bobbi’s NAVSEA and CNO Navy co-workers and his wife’s breast cancer support group in Calvert County where he had a reputation to liven up a party; and many members of the Northedge family of Dunkirk, to whom he was related via marriage.

Cremation was handled by Rendon-Hale Funeral Home, Lanham. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
