James Allen “Crackers” Bowling, 71, of Newburg died June 15, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown.
He was born March 25, 1941, to the late Wallace Bowling and Martha Leona Davis Bowling.
He was a southpaw pitcher for the Glasva Baseball Team and also enjoyed golfing with his fellow golfers at Wicomico Shores. A retired farmer, he enjoyed being with his grandchildren and his dog, Duke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Ashley Marie Goldey; and sister, Hannah Hancock.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Rice Bowling; son, James A. Bowling Jr. and his wife, Constance; daughters, Theresa Hall, Donna Goldey and her husband, Howard T. “Sonny,” and Jo Ann Ucekay and her husband, John, of Mechanicsville; sisters, Betty Ann Davis and Margaret Bowling; brothers, Edward, Calvin, Charles and Howard “Butch” Bowling; grandchildren, Megan Hall, Jacob and Jeremy Ucekay, Hunter and Holden Goldey, Cole, Rose, Emory, James A. Bowling III, Andrew P. Bowling, and Danny, Nick and Ashleigh Hill.
Visitation and prayers were held on June 19 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 11555 St. Mary’s Church Road in Charlotte Hall.
A Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. today, June 20, at the church, with the Rev. Keith Woods officiating.
Interment will follow immediately at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jacob Ucekay, Cole Bowling, Danny Hill, Joe Saunders, Butch Bowling and Chester Bowling.
Honorary pallbearers are Edward, Calvin and Charles Bowling, Thomas H. Rice, Johnny Rice, Jimmy Wood, James Cornette and Donald Langley.
