Olive Catherine Dunnington Barnes, 94, Pisgah

Olive Catherine Dunnington Barnes, 94, of Pisgah died June 19, 2012, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata.

She was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Pisgah.

She was a member of the Catholic faith and was baptized at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church. She loved her faith and never missed a Mass. She attended Mass each and every Sunday and daily Mass during the week. She recited the rosary every night before she went to bed.

She was a domestic worker who loved her home, family and flowers. Flowers were inside the house and outside in small gardens. She enjoyed doing good deeds for anyone she could.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Barnes; daughter, Ada, who died two years ago; nine brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by her sons, the Rev. Johnny R. Barnes, Cecil R. Barnes and Edward Barnes Jr.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul A. Dunnington and Clifford L. Dunnington; daughters-in-law, Hilda Barnes and Mildred Barnes; son-in-law, Leslie Whittaker; brother-in-law, Edward Smallwood Jr.; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Dunnington and Pearlene Dunnington; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. with prayers at 5 p.m. June 24 at Thornton Funeral Home, Pomonkey; Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. June 25 at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Indian Head. Burial will take place at St. Charles Cemetery, Glymont.

Arrangements are being handled by Thornton Funeral Home.
