A 7-year-old girl is dead and her mother remains listed in critical condition following a three-car crash Sunday afternoon in Bryans Road in which police said alcohol was a contributing factor.

Marquetta Rochelle McGee, 36, of Waldorf was driving north on Indian Head Highway around 3:21 p.m. with her daughter, Jan-nae Alicia Woodard, directly behind her in the backseat when a green 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe slammed into the driver’s side of her car, said trooper Justin Zimmerman, a member of the Maryland State Police Crash Team.

Investigators determined the Tahoe, driven by Jackson Tutt, 73, of Fort Washington, had been traveling south on the highway when it crossed the median at Lewis Place, entered the northbound lanes and struck the left rear passenger side of a gray 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer before T-boning McGee’s silver 2003 Nissan Altima.

Woodard, a student at William B. Wade Elementary School, was pronounced dead at the scene.

McGee and Tutt were both flown by helicopter to the shock trauma unit at Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly.

As of Tuesday afternoon, McGee remained listed in critical condition while Tutt, who suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, had been released from the hospital, Zimmerman said.

The driver of the Trailblazer, William Green, 60, of Indian Head, did not suffer any injuries.

His wife, Mattie Green, 63, was taken by ambulance to Fort Washington Medical Center, where she was treated for minor injuries and released, Zimmerman said.

Charges are pending against Tutt, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, Zimmerman said. Investigators are awaiting the results of a blood-alcohol kit, he added.

Zimmerman said it would take three to four months for the crash team to complete its reconstruction report and another couple of months for the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office to review the report and decide whether to file charges against Tutt, who is not in custody.

It appeared everyone involved in the accident was wearing seat belts, including Woodard, who was in a booster seat, Zimmerman said.

The fatal accident was the sixth this year in Charles County.

Last week, Lana Elaine Mostardi, 30, of Waldorf was hit and killed by an SUV while trying to walk across Chicamuxen Road in Marbury.

Last month, Elias Masanaa Charles-Kabongo, 3, of Waldorf was killed after he ran out from behind his mother’s car and was hit by a passing SUV on Sugarberry Street and Margarita Gunva Hardesty, 71, of Fort Pierce, Fla. died after driving off Budds Creek Road and striking some trees.

In March, Juwuan Michael Stewart, 17, of Nanjemoy got into an accident on Mason Springs Road and died after his car caught fire, engulfing him in the flames.

In January, Kenneth Fitzgerald Kelley, 47, of Forest Heights died after he struck a tree in the front yard of a home on Ironwood Drive in Waldorf.
