Jessica Liu, 17, a recent graduate of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, received a $2,500 scholarship P.E.O. STAR Scholarship at the group’s Olney meeting.June 19.

The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded in 1869 at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes increased educational opportunities for women.

STAR Scholarships are based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success.

Jessica plans to attend the University of Maryland, College Park, in the fall, majoring in piano performance and government and politics.
