For residents looking to enjoy some fireworks close to home, below are some of the celebrations in the northern Prince George’s area.
College Park and the University of Maryland, College Park are teaming up to throw a patriotic celebration Wednesday with a free concert and fireworks display on campus. Concessions, including hot dogs, funnel cake and snow cones, will be available for purchase beginning at 5 p.m. A concert by The Fabulous Hubcaps starts at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks around 9 p.m. All festivities will be held in the University of Maryland Parking Lot 1, at Campus Drive off of Adelphi Road.
The city of Greenbelt will hold its Independence Day celebration at Buddy Attick Park at 555 Crescent Road on Wednesday. The Greenbelt Concert Band will begin playing at 5:45 p.m., followed by a drum circle. Fireworks will begin around 9 p.m.
Laurel will celebrate the 4th of July on July 7, with a parade beginning at 11 a.m. and the first annual hot dog eating contest at 2 p.m. A classic car show will also be held at Granville Gude Park. Fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m. at Laurel Lake.
