The Bank of America will hold a free homeowner assistance event for area residents.
According to an email, the bank has invited more than 16,000 customers within 75 miles of Baltimore to sit down with a Bank of America specialist to discuss their current situation and any foreclosure avoidance options available.
The events will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 29 and 30 at the Hilton Baltimore at 401 W. Pratt St. Complimentary parking will be available at the Hilton Baltimore. The entrance is located off Eutaw Street. Vouchers will be provided on-site at the event.

Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease care, support and research. The National Capital Area Chapter will host two walks in Southern Maryland on Sept. 15.
Participants will learn more about Alzheimer’s, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment, and the association’s support programs and services.

The Charles County Department of Community Services’ July 2012 issue of The SCOOP is now available online at www.CharlesCountyMD.gov/CS. Printed copies are available at county senior centers.
The SCOOP contains news, special events and trips including the Richard R. Clark Senior Center in La Plata holding its annual flea market fundraiser 8 a.m. to noon July 14 at the center at 1210 Charles St. in La Plata. Visit the flea market to fill a home with bargain-priced treasures. All proceeds go to the council to benefit the center.
The Waldorf Senior Center will host its weeklong yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 30 to Aug. 2 at the center, 3092 Crain Highway.
All proceeds go to the Waldorf Senior Center council. Bring in items beginning July 23 through July 26. Donations will not be accepted before or after the specified date.
The Waldorf Senior Center will hold a farmers market 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 17. Plan to visit the center and shop for fresh fruits and vegetables right in the parking lot. Several local farmers are scheduled to be there, in addition to representatives from Senior Information & Assistance and Office on Aging programs. Food stamp eligibility screenings will be offered. Take advantage of the opportunity just for seniors to help support local farmers.

Pastoral setting for piano music
Piano Festival by the River, a summer retreat for pianists, piano students and piano teachers, will be held at St. Mary’s College of Maryland from July 6 to 9. Previously known as Piano Fest, the annual event offers four days of music, exploration, and community for pianists of a broad range of abilities, ages and interests. Opportunities for this year’s participants include master classes, lessons and performances.

The public is invited to free performances at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. July 7 and 8 and at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. July 9.
Also, at 7 p.m. July 7, Babcock performs Bach, Beethoven, Debussy and Chopin; 7 p.m. July 8, Garth performs “Sound, Silence, Color: Celebrating the Debussy Sesquicentennial and the Cage Centennial”; 1 p.m. July 9: Ganz peforms “The Poet Sings: On Poetry, Music, Alchemy and Chopin’s Miniatures”; and 5:30 p.m. July 9, all perform in the participants’ recital at 5:30 p.m.
All performances take place in Auerbach Auditorium of St. Mary’s Hall on the St. Mary’s College of Maryland campus.
Adult softball league registration announced
The Charles County Department of Public Works will hold registration for the upcoming fall adult softball league from July 23 to Aug. 3.
League play will start the week of Sept. 3 at Laurel Springs Park and White Plains Park.
Teams may register at the Department of Public Works at 1001 Radio Station Road in La Plata between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.

County seeks images for Photo of the Week
Charles County government now features a “Photo of the Week” section on its website at www.CharlesCountyMD.gov. Citizens are encouraged to help celebrate Charles County by showing off its beauty.
Each week, a random image will be selected from among all submitted entries. The selected photo will be posted on the home page of the website, and also placed on the Charles County government Facebook page and online photo gallery.
