One or more culprits set fire to burnable materials Wednesday afternoon near a 46-foot boat, state investigators report, and the blaze caused damages to the vessel estimated at $25,000 at the address of Point Lookout Marina in Ridge.

A deputy state fire marshal was dispatched Thursday morning to investigate damage to a pier at another location in Ridge, according to Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Duane Svites.

“We’re down there right now,” Svites confirmed at midday Thursday.

No arrests were reported in either incident as of presstime that day.

Eleven Ridge volunteer firefighters responding Wednesday to a 3:59 p.m. alarm quickly doused the fire originating on the exterior of the 1990 Markley boat owned by St. Mary’s resident Henry Madjeski, according to a notice of investigation by deputy state fire marshal Melissa Bean. An employee at the location had discovered and reported the blaze.

The fire marshal’s office has requested that anyone with information about Wednesday’s fire call 443-550-6834.
