A Cheltenham teen died at the hospital Saturday morning after suffering apparent blunt force trauma during fights that broke out at a party in Indian Head, the Charles County Sheriff's Office reported.

Friends brought Jerry Adam Gilchrist, 18, to the emergency room at Civista Medical Center in La Plata after he had gotten into a fight at the party. Gilchrist was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police received a report of gunshots being fired at a home in the 4800 block of Mason Springs Road around 2:47 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a large party and learned that several fights had taken place.

No shooting victims were found, but the officers were notified on the scene by the hospital that Gilchrist had been brought to the emergency room and was suffering from what appeared to be blunt force trauma.

Gilchrist's friends told police that he had been at the party and involved in a fight.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will perform an autopsy.

It did not appear to officers that there were any parents supervising the party and that there were several “unexpected or uninvited guests that showed up, and we think that’s where the trouble started,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Diane Richardson said.

Word of the party spread via social media, she added.

No suspects had been identified as of Tuesday afternoon, Richardson said.

The investigation is ongoing.
